Extensive structural changes to your property are required when building your new loft conversion.  Therefore, you need to ensure that all plans and drawings comply with building regulations ensuring the safety and integrity of the structure of your home.

Building inspectors ensure that all work is carried out safely and in compliance to the correct standards.  Building inspectors are contactable at your Local Authority Planning Office

Extract from London Borough of Waltham Forest (dated 24 Feb 2009)

Building Inspectors are available for general advice between 9am and 10am Monday to Friday on (020) 8496 6762 or 6763, or in our reception.

Your Architect and structural engineer can advise you about what building approval is required although your local authority will have FAQ’s and guides that also include helpful advice.

Many people are choosing to convert their home rather than moving to a bigger house.  There is a risk that conversions in other properties do not comply to buildings regulations and are structurally unsound.

There are many types of conversion opportunities in your existing property, ie, loft, basement and garage conversions.  These will allow you to create your own bespoke designed living spaces and add value to your home investment.  You will also be reassured knowing that work is carried out to high standards rather than living with insufficiently supported structures, subsidence placing you and your family at risk.
