Many people are choosing to convert their home rather than moving to a bigger house.  There is a risk that conversions in other properties do not comply to buildings regulations and are structurally unsound.

There are many types of conversion opportunities in your existing property, ie, loft, basement and garage conversions.  These will allow you to create your own bespoke designed living spaces and add value to your home investment.  You will also be reassured knowing that work is carried out to high standards rather than living with insufficiently supported structures, subsidence placing you and your family at risk.

www.loftsandbasements.co.uk provides extensive advice and information helping you to manage the planning and coordination of property conversions.

Reviews for, East London Builders, Blackthorne Building taken from www.problemsolved.com/blackthorne_building

Excellent service!
Thanks to Nick and his team we now have a new office space and an extra spare bedroom. Nick was very straightforward and professional to deal with, but also went the ‘extra mile’ to offer advice and to produce a custom-made oak threshold for us. We would have no hesitation in employing Nick again or in recommending him to others.

What a find!
Nick and his team have been brilliant at making my bathroom into a little speical haven. It was not an easy job with fancy mosiacs and pipework that was leaky and installed by other builders but the quality of the tiling by Warren and suggestions to change my floor choice were all spot on. Best thing from my perspective is how Nick manages your expectations about when the team will turn up and he calls you through out the build to say what is going on. All done with good humour and professional! So good - they will be hopefully building my kitchen extension.

We employed Nick and his team for a refurbishment of the whole ground floor of our house. This included building work in the kitchen to knock through a utility room and back wall to open up the kitchen and allow folding glass doors. Firstly Nick’s quote was competitive and he also offered a lot of practical advice, which was very helpful for a couple not very experienced with building work. All the people Nick employs were unfailingly polite, friendly and helpful and I was more than happy for any or all of them to be in the house unsupervised. They all made a big effort to leave the house tidy at the end of the day and made every attempt to keep disruption to a minimum. Nick was always contactable to discuss progress, either at the house or on the phone, and there were no hidden costs or surprises at the end. We are very happy with the quality of the work - the house looks great - and I would have no hesitation in recommending Nick to anyone considering having building work done.

Blackthorne Building fitted a new bathroom whilst also accommodating structural changes to the layout of the property. The work by Nick and the sub-contractors was carried out to a high standard and any required changes due to limitations in the building were discussed in advance. There were also a number of suggestions that we were able to take on board to enhance both the look and the performance of the bathroom. We were more than happy to leave keys with Nick for access which made things a lot easier. In addition Nick was able to sort out a few ad-hoc problems, namely clearing a blocked drain that was due to be inspected and arranging for doors to be hung elsewhere in the property. I would certainly recommend Nick as the standard of work was high and the cost was more than competitive.

We found Nick through the problemsolved website and we are extremely happy with the service he provided. Nick completely refurbished our bathroom and both he and his team were extremely reliable, honest and professional at all times. It was refreshing to have someone straight up who does what he says he is going to do so to this end I would highly recommend Nick and the Blackthorne team. In fact he is hopefully going to install our new kitchen on the back of this! Jeff Hardie, Tufnell Park, London N19

A great company to deal with. Lots of tactful advice and design suggestions but always do what you want. They are a really nice team of guys; trustworthy, generous and communicative. Their standard of work and attention to detail is excellent and they keep the site tidy and safe. I highly recommend them.

I, too, have had work done by this company, they completely refurbished my kitchen. I, of course, wanted the impossible but Nick was very patient and made suggestions which enabled me to have the work done as close to my dreams as possible. The finish is beautiful and the carpenter made me bespoke units as the measurements were odd.

This company was recommended to me by a neighbour as I had been badly treated by “cowboys” in the past. I had a new kitchen fitted and the company owner, Nick, oversees everything that is done. They all turned up on time, left the room very clean each day. The cost was very competitive and as the area was awkward, the carpenter fitted all the cupboards. Everyone has complimented me on the finished room. I am now getting them to do a loft conversion for me. I am an elderly lady who has been ripped off in the past and cannot praise Nick and his workmen enough. They say they do everything from the front gate to the back one. High quality and reasonable prices. Perhaps I shouldn’t recommend them as I might have to wait for future work to be done! They are listed in the Evening Standard Recommended Tradesmen site. They can supply references from satisfied customers if required. They are one company you will not see on Rogue Traders!
